Client : Various clients including The Learning Collaboration, Cambridge, voluntary sector groups, not-for-profit organisations and commercial businesses.

Requirement : Workshops for new mentors to develop an understanding of mentoring, practise mentoring skills and build confidence to begin mentoring.

Solution : CBP prepared tailored, one-day workshops designed to:
  • create a good understanding of mentoring, and how it differs both from counselling and from coaching
  • give delegates the chance to practise with roleplay, and to receive feedback on their technique
  • help people to recognise and refine the mentoring skills they may already have – and to use those skills as effectively as possible
  • give mentors a model for managing the beginning, middle and end of the mentoring relationship.
Outcome : A successful, popular course that has been used to good effect by many different organisations.

Comments from participants include: ‘Excellent – thank you – I now understand current mentoring practice’; ‘It was all useful and confirmed that I am doing the right thing’; ‘I liked the practical and explanatory style and the opportunity to role play and explore’; ‘The models of different processes in mentoring will be useful in my work’; ‘It will give me more insight as to where my mentees are coming from’.
